New Home Registry for BC

Blog by Diane Cardoso | June 6th, 2011

Shopping for a new home? Check out the New Homes Registry for BC for Free access to find out if a home has 3rd party Home Warranty Insurance and is built by a licensed residential builder. If the new home is built by a licensed residential builder, the registry will display the name and contact number of the warranty provider and the builder's warranty number. You can also check to see if the home is built without warranty insurance under and exemption, such as an owner building authorization. Homes suspected of being illegally built or where home warranty insurance has been withdrawn prior to issuance, will be flagged on the registry as being "under investigation."   BC homes are covered under the strongest system of construction defect insurance in Canada, namely 2-5-10 warranty coverage.  Two years on labour & materials, 5 years on building envelope including water penetration and 10 years on the structure. This registry became effective after November 19, 2007 and you can search for single detached homes, multi-unit homes and duplexes.  For homes built between July 1, 1999 and November 19, 2007 contact the Homeowners Protection Office (HPO) at 1-800-407-7757 or visit the HPO website at: http://www.hpo.bc.ca/new-homes-registry
