Multiple Myeloma - Fundraiser Ride

Blog by Diane Cardoso | February 6th, 2023

My son and daughter-in-law will be riding 34K in May to raise awareness and funds for Multiple Myeloma.  Multiple Myeloma is a blood cancer that is involves a type of white blood cell – the plasma cell. Every day, 11 Canadians are diagnosed with myeloma, yet in spite of its growing prevalence, the disease remains relatively unknown. To date, there is no cure.

In 2019, my daughter-in-law's Mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma-Plasma Cell Leukemia. Immediately following her diagnosis she endured months of intensive IV chemotherapy, countless hospital and specialist visits and eventually underwent an autologous stem cell transplant. Since then, life consists of monthly bloodwork, continued specialist appointments, bone marrow biopsies and daily chemo.
