10 Home Safety Tips for Summer Holidays

Blog by Diane Cardoso | July 27th, 2020

Are you ready for a well deserved break?  Even if you are only heading out for a long weekend, consider some of these safety tips for your home:
1) Put lights on a timer and put your motion sensor outdoor lights to motion-activated setting
2) Check batteries in your smoke alaram - be pro-active and change your alarm batteries to match the bi-annual time change
3) Remove any valuables - use a safety deposit box or at home safe
4) Remove any keys outside - leave one key with a neighbour as an emergency contact
5) Unplug all your electronics - they still use energy and cost, even while you are away
6) Don't post on Facebook or Instagram that you are travelling
7) Switch your water heater to vacation mode
8) Lower your thermostata - but not cold enough to freeze pipes in the winter
9) Clean out the fridge if you are longer than a weekend away
10) Bleach the toilet bowl and clean the garburator - put a 1/2 cup of bleach in the toilet, use a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the disposal
Go, have fun, and relax!
